Our client is a division of Cooper Industries, makes a wide range of fuses, along with circuit breakers, surge suppressors, power distribution blocks, fuse panels, and super capacitors. The company's products are used in the consumer, construction, industrial, and transportation markets. Cooper Bussmann has some 12 manufacturing facilities located in Brazil, China, India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. It sells products worldwide through distributors and sales representatives.
Director of Engineering, is responsible for formulating and implementing short and long range new product plans that will ensure the capability of the business unit to meet immediate and future market demands as well as growth objectives. The incumbent participates in the formulation, presentation for division approval, and implementation of strategic business plans. Director of Engineering, works with Sales and marketing to develop new products and new applications for existing products to meet the needs of, and capitalize on, the opportunities of the marketplace. To ensure the future growth and success of the business unit, it is imperative that new and existing technology be applied to meet market needs. To coordinate and direct this effort, a working mastery of many diverse disciplines is required. Those disciplines include: research methods and analytical techniques, electrical product design, metallurgy, manufacturing processes, cost accounting, margin analysis, market research, professional motivation, budgeting and planning and professional presentations. Knowledge and skills in selecting, motivating, and developing both highly technical personnel and managers is important. This position is most influential on the long-term success of the business unit. Responsible for the attainment of business unit growth and profitability objectives through providing new and improved products to the domestic and international marketplace. Responsible for planning and directing the business unit's new product development teams, prototype development, and patent administration. Oversees the activities of the design center as well as ensuring Bussmann processes and procedures are followed in the Wireless business unit. Responsible for identification and development of new technologies to ensure our Transportation's position as a world leader in the power conversion, control, power distribution and circuit protection space. Planning Participates as a key member of the market/product development team management in the short and long range planning and establishment of function objectives. Based on such objectives, incumbent plans, develops and directs engineering resources with other business unit disciplines to accomplish business unit objectives. Organizational Development Identifies, evaluates, recruits, attracts, develops and retains excellent talent. Plans, staffs, develops and maintains the necessary engineering resource professional and technical personnel to effectively meet the high standards of professionalism and competence required. Provides leadership in creating and maintaining an environment of innovation while ensuring the standards of quality and safety demanded by products designed for electrical/electronic circuit protection. Global Focus Develops and implements comprehensive global action plans that accomplish required results based upon marketing direction and the appropriate allocation of resources. Relentlessly engages global internal and external resources to insure that the organization is functioning at a uniform high level of effectiveness. Results Orientation Delivers results in the short and long-term with a bias for taking action. Urgently recognizes problems and implements countermeasures. Prioritizes activities and delivers on key metrics. Technology Leadership Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data from various perspectives to create aggressive technology strategies. Interpersonal/Interdepartmental Relations Interpersonal and communication skills are critical. This position requires extension use of verbal and oral skills in interfacing with peers, subordinates and superiors on a global basis. Is comfortable in the international environment and savvy in influencing others to achieve results. Product Improvement and Cost Reduction In accord with market/product development function's objectives, plans, directs and controls all phases of product research, development and implementation from concept through acceptable production output to meet user, quality, cost and other requirements. Must remain responsive to ever changing requirements through continual interface with field representatives to ensure continued and expanded market acceptance. Management Reporting Maintains a high level of awareness personally (and of subordinates) of the state of technology affecting the business unit's products and business and keeps management advised with evaluations and recommendations. Makes proposals and presentations to division executives relating to projects. Reviews progress and status of product improvement and cost reduction efforts and recommends changes in programs or objectives. Facilities and Equipment Utilization Plans, recommends and directs the development of procurement of necessary processes, components, equipment or materials required for product improvement and cost reduction. Plans and directs the optimum utilization of space and existing equipment and apparatus. Intellectual Property Administers the business unit's patents, trade secrets and trademarks to protect its intellectual property. Licenses the business unit's technology where profitable and acquires outside technology as required. Fifteen years of engineering experience in several engineering areas to acquire the background necessary for successful performance to obtain the objectives consistent with plans and engineering goals, and no less than five years of engineering management. Experience should include power engineering management, power supply design, and automotive or off-road electrical products management and design. Strong background in power electronics preferred. Demonstrated track record of managing new product development projects from concept to completion.
Requires minimum BSEE. Courses in Business Administration, Statistics, and other Engineering sciences beneficial. An advanced technical degree is desired. RELO Available for the ideal candidate.
